João Guilherme Costa, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University and an integrated researcher at CBIOS – Research Center for Biosciences & Health Technologies, collaborating with iMed.ULisboa (FFUL). He holds a PhD in Health Sciences – Experimental and Clinical Pharmacy from the University of Alcalá (2018; Sobresaliente cum laude) and an Integrated Master’s Degree (MSc) in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon (FFUL, 2008).
His research focuses on pharmacology, toxicology, bioactive compounds, food safety, and cancer, with 40 peer-reviewed articles, 5 book chapters, and over 160 scientific communications. He has received 20 awards and distinctions, including the Extraordinary Doctorate Award from the University of Alcalá.
João G. Costa is an active member of the Scientific Councils of ECTS and CBIOS, as well as of two Ethics Committees (ILIND and ECTS), where he also served as President and Vice-President. He sits on the Editorial Board of Foods (MDPI), acts as Topic Editor in multiple Special Issues, and reviews for more than 50 international journals.
To date, he has supervised 3 PhD students, 2 Master’s students, 21 Integrated Master’s students, and 5 Bachelor’s students, with several of these works resulting in scientific publications, conference presentations, and awards. He has participated in over 70 academic examination juries (PhD, Master’s, Integrated Master’s and Bachelor’s), serving as arguer in more than 35 of them.
He coordinates curricular units in Pharmacology, Pharmacogenomics, Food Toxicology and Pharmacotoxicology, and supervises students across Bachelor, Integrated Master, MSc and PhD levels.
