João Guilherme Feliciano Da Costa

João Guilherme Costa is Assistant Professor at Universidade Lusófona, where he teaches and coordinates curricular units in Pharmacology, Pharmacogenomics and Toxicology. He holds a PhD in Health Sciences – Experimental and Clinical Pharmacy from Universidad de Alcalá (2018, Sobresaliente cum laude), an Integrated Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Postgraduate Specialization in Food Quality Control and Toxicology from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon.

He is an integrated researcher at CBIOS – Research Center for Biosciences & Health Technologies and a collaborating researcher at iMed.ULisboa, conducting research in pharmacology and toxicology, with particular focus on the mechanisms of action and safety of bioactive compounds, redox and immunological biomarkers, and the safety of food supplements and drug-food interactions.

Since 2026 he has held the title of European Registered Toxicologist (ERT, EUROTOX).

His scientific output includes more than 40 articles published in peer-reviewed indexed journals, an h-index of 17 and approximately 1300 citations (Scopus), 5 book chapters, and more than 160 scientific communications. To date, he has supervised 3 PhD students, 2 Master's students, 25 Integrated Master's students, and 5 undergraduate students, resulting in publications, awards, and presentations at national and international conferences.

He has collaborated on several scientific projects, has coordinated the Advanced Training Course in Clinical Trial Monitoring (Universidade Lusófona) since 2019, and has served on scientific and organizing committees of national and international conferences.

He is a member of the Scientific Councils of ECTS and CBIOS, and of the Ethics Committees of ILIND and ECTS, having served as President and Vice-President of the latter. He is an Editorial Board member of the journal Foods (MDPI), acts as Topic Editor for Special Issues, and has carried out more than 60 peer reviews for international indexed journals. He has received 20 awards and distinctions, including the Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado from Universidad de Alcalá.
