Catarina Pereira-Leite (CPL) is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University, an integrated member of CBIOS – Research Center for Biosciences & Health Technologies, and a collaborator of LAQV/REQUIMTE. She holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Biological Sciences (Biochemistry), awarded in December 2017 under a cotutelle agreement between the University of Porto and the University of São Paulo.
Her teaching and research expertise lies at the interface of pharmaceutical technology, biophysics, and nanotechnology, with a particular focus on biological barriers and the rational design of nanocarrier-based strategies to modulate or overcome them. Her current research focuses on bioinspired lipid-based nanosystems, ionic-liquid-containing nanocarriers, and semisolid formulations for skin delivery, with applications in pharmaceutical and dermocosmetic products, including approaches targeting the impaired skin barrier. She teaches and coordinates undergraduate and advanced training activities in pharmaceutical sciences, including biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical technology, and drug delivery.
CPL has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and has an h-index of 15. She has supervised 15 completed Master’s dissertations and currently supervises two PhD candidates. Her research has attracted competitive funding, including the FCT-funded exploratory project “BIOMATNANO4AD – Bioinspired materials in nanosolutions to tackle atopic dermatitis,” for which she served as Principal Investigator.
Her international engagement includes participation in COST Actions and the examination of Master’s and doctoral theses at the University of São Paulo and the University of Porto. She has served as Guest Editor of Nanomaterials and Pharmaceutics and was an invited speaker at the 2026 Skin Forum. These activities highlight her international profile and expertise in nanotechnology and skin delivery.
