Andreia Gomes is an Assistant Professor and Researcher at Universidade Lusófona, holding a PhD in Molecular Biosciences from Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB-NOVA), awarded in 2021. Her academic background also includes an MSc in Biotechnology from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and a BSc in Biochemistry from Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro.
Her teaching and research activities focus on Cell Biology, Immunology, Molecular Nutrition and translational research, with particular expertise in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, nutrigenomics, bioactive compounds and the application of multi-omics approaches, including metabolomics, transcriptomics and microbiome analysis. At Universidade Lusófona, she coordinates four course units and has developed active learning and gamification approaches in higher education.
She has authored 20 peer-reviewed international scientific publications, including 13 published within the last five years, and is Principal Investigator of a funded project, while also participating in three other competitive research projects. She has further contributed to the supervision and co-supervision of PhD, Master’s and Bachelor’s students.
Her professional experience includes collaborations with the pharmaceutical industry and participation in national and international research projects. A PhD student under her supervision was awarded a Fulbright Research Scholarship to undertake part of her doctoral research at the University of California, Davis.
She also contributes to laboratory management and the training of new users in cell culture, supporting the scientific and experimental activities of the institution. She received an Honourable Mention in 2020 in the Research and Development category of the Food & Nutrition Awards.
