Training Fellowship in Natural Products Research

A training research position is immediately available in the Chemistry and Phytochemistry lab at CBIOS of Universidade Lusófona.
CBIOS is a research unit that currently has 30 faculty members, 14 PhD students, a wide range of external collaborators, and more than 30 projects running, producing interdisciplinary and translational research (more information at www.cbios.ulusofona.pt) in 3 main domains:
- Pharmacology and Therapeutics
- Food Science and Phytochemistry (phytochemistry lab is inserted)
- Development of Delivery Systems
Trainees in this CBIOS fellowship, will have access to a variety of Natural Products Chemistry works such as natural products isolation, purification and further characterization; the preparation of bioactive diterpenoid derivatives using semisynthesis and considering the bioactivity of compounds and/or extracts: the screening and evaluation of samples for their antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity (against Gram positive and negative bacteria and yeasts strains), the general toxicity and acetylcholinesterase, tyrosinase, elastase and collagenase enzymes inhibition, using colorimetric assays.
All candidates will be considered, although particular attention will be given to individuals who have:
- a solid academic background including, if possible, special interest in Phytochemistry and Medicinal Plants
- good communication skills (written/spoken English)
- motivation and, if possible
- previous research experience working with RMN techniques
Candidates eligible for CBIOS fellowship will benefit for a “zero” fees policy enjoying all the benefits offered to the university student’s. After the 1st semester evaluation, will eventually be able to apply to one of the scholarships available for PhD programs.
